HG PCV valve
Submitted by Holden Fan (not verified) on Mon, 08/09/2008 - 03:04.Related to previous post, when I moved the timing around with the dizzy to try and figure out what was going on, I found the PCV valve which is fairly new would start this buzzing sound, sort of a fairly energetic rattle...what would a PCV have to do with timing??
Thx

186 question re: mystery ball bearing in auto advance tube
Submitted by Holden Fan (not verified) on Mon, 08/09/2008 - 02:53.Hi;
Had heaps of grief with an engine 'miss' in the old 186, found what looked to be a small ball bearing jammed in the rubber tube from auto timing advance unit on dizzy that goes to manifold. Has anyone heard that that is used for a purpose (or could have been from previous owner) or was it obviously not supposed to be there.? Seems to be running better without it though.
Thx

Swapping my diff
Submitted by Holden Fan (not verified) on Sun, 07/09/2008 - 06:10.Hey everybody,
I recently bought a HG Prem with a 308 in it to do up as a project and it has a VL Turbo Mini Spool diff in it. I was wondering if anybody would be interested in swapping me a standard diff in good condition to suit this model. Must be a V8 diff from drum to drum.
The mini spool costs the previous owner $2500 fitted and they say these diffs are good for up to 800 h/p.
I personelly don't like the way it drives but everybody else seems to think they are the ducks guts.
The car is at Gosford on the NSW Central Coast in the panel shop with the diff still in it.
While i'm here i might as well ask if anybody has a good front drivers side door to suit the HG, I don't mean to sound fussy but it must be in top nick.
Thanks for reading,

ive just been given a hg panel van and am told its ex-ambulance. it has two front doors and then a third door behind the driver. it has 3 bucket seats fitted and is complienced to seat 3. i dont doubt that it is all factory fitted, though i can not seem to find anything on the net about it. basically alls im looking for is some pics of this model fitted out originally and maybe a bit of an idea on how many were produced.

rear suspension
Submitted by SICKHG on Sun, 31/08/2008 - 21:32.My next job on my never ending list is to sort out my rear suspension.. I have new lowered king spring leafs for HG sedan with new std munroe shocks. i have 225 tyres on 15in wheels my gaurds were not rolled at the top before painting so every bump its hitting and driving me insane!!
now would buying a good set of adjustable shocks to stiffen it up work???
i was thinking about getting the springs re-set but really like the hieght its at, also while underneath i've relised the springs are sitting dead flat is this normal for lowered ones?
other thoughts have been to buy skinnier tyres, its really a pain as i can't have anyone in the back its bad enough with 2 in the front!!!
cheers and thanks for any advice.

carby issues
Submitted by premhg on Fri, 29/08/2008 - 02:18.Hey all,
Just put a VH 202 blue into the HG - nice and simple - the issue is that the varajet has a flat spot on take off - I put a kit through it but its still the same - has anybody got any tricks for these things?
Timing is right - plugs are new - no vacuum leaks - emission stuff off or blocked....
kickdown linkages
Submitted by Holden Fan (not verified) on Thu, 28/08/2008 - 02:06.gday i was looking through the sheds the other day and saw in 308-T's shed that he had modded his accelerator linkages to run a cable accelerator but retain the linkage for the kickdown. i was wondering if he, or anyone else, would have any plans or ideas on how to do this? i am trying to fir a 308 and this is one of those loose ends that i need to tie up asap

FOR SALE Twin Strombergs + manifold
Submitted by leadfoot570 on Tue, 26/08/2008 - 18:30.Hey guys, I'm trying to sell this for a mate who just bought it and decided he wants a V8 instead. He paid $550 for the carby's alone and only had em fitted and running for less than one hour. He still has the receipt.
They were reconditioned by Extreme Fuel Systems at Campbelltown and would still be under warranty. They're highly polished and look AWESOME. The manifold is also brand new!
I think $500 is a fair price. They are located at Ingleburn, NSW. (use Google maps to find it)

Rochesters Playn Up
Submitted by Tall Pup on Sun, 24/08/2008 - 10:10.Hopefully those carby minded people out there can point me in the right direction, anyway just got back from 3 month trip o\s, and i went to start up the ole 253, guess what petrol spat everywhere, pi#$%n out the air cleaner, Ive got a Rochester 4 barrel and it seems to me that when i turn the motor over the carby lets fuel squirt everywhere, since it hasn't been started for a while now is it possible that something has dried up in the carby or Ive done damage to the jets maybe somewhere? hopefully its something simple as I'm not a carby kinda person. Any advise would be great. Thx

Ball Joint Removal
Submitted by Holden Fan (not verified) on Sun, 24/08/2008 - 03:32.Hey guys,
How does one remove upper and lower ball joints from the control arms in an HG?
Also, when did the drag link/idler arm sizes change in the HG and how do you tell which model you've got? It's either 9/16 or 11/16. There's early and late model HG's though what month in 1971 they changed.
Cheers.....g
